DIY – Make Your Own Unique Glass Tabletop

The DIY craze has crafty people scrambling to collect old wine corks and wooden pallets, so we thought we would explore the idea of making your very own, one-of-a-kind glass tabletop piece!

Benefits of a Glass Tabletop Table

Glass tables fit nicely with so many styles and always looks classy. If your dining area is smaller or connected to another room, choosing a table with a glass top in the room makes the room look much larger than if you were to put in a solid table. With a glass tabletop, you also get to show-off the base of the table.

Glass tabletops are also useful for protecting furniture with softer woods or textures that can become easily damaged, without having to hide the beautiful surface. This is especially useful if you have valuable vintage pieces on display in your home.

What you Need:

  • A unique base of your choosing – The base can be almost anything. Choose something that goes with the scheme of your room since it will be visible.
  • Tempered Glass – Getting tempered glass is important for safety reasons as well as longevity. Tempered glass is less likely to shatter and will hold up better to wear-and-tear.
  • Miscellaneous Tools – Saw, sandpaper, measuring tape, screws, manual screwdriver.
  • Other items you might need include suction cups, wood, and/or adhesive.

Basic Instructions:

Prepare the base of your table by making sure the top is level. This can be done by sanding or creating a frame from wood to set your tempered glass into. Measure the surface area you will need for your tempered glass and where the holes need to be made to secure the glass to your base (if any). Depending on your base, you may be able to use suction cups or adhesive to adhere the glass to your base. If you are using a wood frame, just set your glass into the frame.
